CMA-CGM TO OPERATE THE NEW CONTAINER TERMINAL IN ALEXANDRIA PORT

The press have issued an article this morning, that  Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received on Tuesday, Mr. Rudolf Saadeh, CEO of the French shipping company “CMA CGM”, in the presence of Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, and Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Minister, Minister of Transport.

The official spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Bassam Rady, said that the meeting dealt with “cooperation with the French company to operate and manage the multi-purpose terminal in Alexandria Port as an operator with international experience in this field.”

The President directed that cooperation with the French company represent an added value for the development of Alexandria port administration, to enhance the port’s activity at the regional and global levels by applying international standards in port operation, and with the aim of reaching standard rates in loading and unloading in a way that helps to upgrade the global classification of Egyptian ports.

From his side; The CEO of the French “CMA” company praised the business climate in Egypt, stressing the company’s aspiration to cooperate with the Egyptian side in managing ports, as well as expanding the company’s scope of work to include operating logistical areas and additional terminals in other ports beside the port of Alexandria.

The terminal will contain the following berths including all facilities and equipment for a proper functioning terminal:
Container terminals (Berth Nos. 55, 56, 57) with a total berth length of 950m and    water depth of 17.0 m to accommodate vessels of 170,000DWT.
Container terminals (Berth Nos. 59, 60) with a total berth length of 610m and water depth of 14.0 m. Quay structure shall be constructed for 50,000DWT vessel maximum.
Non-container terminals (Berth Nos. 61, 62) with a total berth length of 410m and water depth of 14.0 m to accommodate one 60,000DWT dry bulk vessel and one 10,000 DWT cargo vessel maximum.
